Field report
Leonie Brandt in Valencia
Industrial Engineering and Management, a semester by the Mediterranean
First impressions: light. When Leonie Brandt arrives in Valencia, the sun is low over the rooftops and everything feels a little bigger than at home. The Industrial Engineering and Management student is spending a semester at a partner university of Fernsee University.
Classes are taught in Spanish and English. At first it's tiring, but after a few weeks she notices she is switching between the languages without thinking about it. Fellow students become friends, and her circle of friends grows wonderfully diverse.
The semester also brings small rituals: paella on the beach, long evenings with the group and a favourite spot where Leonie clears her head after lectures. Her verdict: a semester abroad brings you more than credits.
